Origin — Central Asia (Turkmenistan and region)

Coat — Coarse, dense, weatherproof double coat (short or longer varieties) with a heavy undercoat.

Recognised colours — White, black, grey, fawn, brindle, and pied; many combinations.

Confident, calm, independent and powerfully protective. An ancient Central Asian livestock-guardian — steady and devoted to family, formidable to threats.

Trainability — Challenging — highly independent (bred to think alone); needs an experienced owner and thorough early socialisation.

Grooming — Moderate–high. Brush weekly; heavy seasonal shedding.

Good with — Best with experienced guardian-dog owners and space; protective and territorial — careful socialisation and management essential.

A hardy steppe breed that tolerates heat better than many giants (especially short-coat types) — still needs shade and water in India.

Health notes — Generally very robust and long-lived for a giant; watch for hip dysplasia, bloat, and obesity.
