Origin — France
Coat — Short, smooth, dense and weatherproof single coat; sheds steadily.
Recognised colours — Typically tricolour (black, tan, white) or lemon-and-white; any recognised hound colour acceptable.
Easy-going, gentle, devoted and famously stubborn. A laid-back, friendly scent hound with a deep bark.
Trainability — Low–moderate — intelligent but independent and nose-driven; patient, food-based training needed.
Grooming — Low–moderate. Weekly brushing; clean the long ears and facial folds to prevent infection.
Good with — Wonderful with children, seniors and other pets. A placid, tolerant family companion.
Tolerates Indian heat reasonably but should not over-exert; the heavy body and short legs strain in humidity.
Health notes — Ear infections, intervertebral disc disease, bloat, glaucoma, hip/elbow dysplasia, obesity (weight control is vital).
