Coat — Short, dense, weatherproof smooth coat; easy-care but sheds moderately year-round.

Recognised colours — Classic tricolour (black, tan, white), lemon-and-white, red-and-white, and other hound combinations.

Merry, friendly, curious and even-tempered. A sociable, food-loving pack hound with a famous nose and voice.

Trainability — Moderate — intelligent but easily distracted by scent; consistent, reward-based training works best.

Grooming — Low. Weekly brushing; clean the drop ears regularly.

Good with — Excellent with children, families and other dogs. A sturdy, good-natured companion that loves company.

Short coat handles Indian heat well; needs daily exercise and secure fencing (it will follow its nose).
