Origin — France / Belgium (Mediterranean roots)

Coat — Soft, dense, curly double coat with a silky corkscrew curl; loose undercoat; very low shedding.

Recognised colours — Pure white; cream, apricot or buff shadings permitted on puppies and around the ears.

Cheerful, affectionate, playful and gentle. A natural charmer that thrives on human company and is rarely aggressive.

Trainability — High — eager and food-motivated, excels at tricks.

Grooming — High. Needs professional grooming every 4–6 weeks plus frequent brushing to prevent matting.

Good with — Excellent with children, seniors and other pets. A superb first-time-owner and apartment dog.

Handles Indian heat moderately well if coat is kept trimmed short in summer; keep indoors during peak afternoon heat. Curly coat needs drying after monsoon walks to avoid skin issues.

Health notes — Watch for allergies, dental crowding, patellar luxation, and tear-staining. Generally a robust, long-lived breed.
