Coat — Abundant, straight, harsh outer coat with a soft dense undercoat and a profuse mane and frill — the classic 'Lassie' coat.

Recognised colours — Sable-and-white, tricolour, blue merle, and white (predominantly white body). All with white markings.

Gentle, devoted, intelligent and sensitive. A graceful, family-oriented herder famed for loyalty and gentleness.

Trainability — High — responsive, eager and easy to train with gentle methods.

Grooming — High. Frequent brushing of the heavy coat; extra during shedding seasons.

Good with — Outstanding with children, families and other pets. A patient, devoted family companion.

The full coat needs heat management in India; provide shade, water and cool exercise hours. Never shave to skin.
