Origin — France

Coat — Short, fine, soft single coat; loose, supple, wrinkled skin — especially over the massive head.

Recognised colours — Shades of fawn (from light to rich mahogany); a black or brown mask; small white on chest/toes allowed.

Calm, devoted, affectionate and courageous. A gentle, loyal French mastiff — placid and deeply bonded to family, watchful of strangers.

Trainability — Moderate — intelligent but stubborn; needs a confident, experienced owner and patient, early training.

Grooming — Low. Weekly wipe-down; clean the facial wrinkles and folds regularly.

Good with — A loving, gentle family guardian; tolerant with children it is raised with. Power and stubbornness need responsible management.

Brachycephalic (shortened muzzle) plus heavy build and folds — very heat-sensitive. Strict cool, AC, indoor living in India; exercise only in cool hours.

Health notes — Very short lifespan; heart disease (major), hip/elbow dysplasia, bloat, brachycephalic issues, cancer, skin-fold dermatitis.
