Origin — Australia and United States (1990s cross between Golden Retriever and Standard/Miniature Poodle)

Coat — Wavy, curly, or straight long coat that is low-shedding. The curlier the coat, the less it sheds. Requires daily brushing to prevent matting and professional grooming every 6–8 weeks.

Common colours — Cream, red, black, gold, apricot, brown, white, or combinations. A wide range of shades is possible depending on parentage.

Friendly, outgoing, affectionate and highly intelligent. Inherits the Golden Retriever's loving, people-oriented nature with the Poodle's sharp intelligence. Excellent therapy and emotional support dogs. Thrives on human interaction and can develop separation anxiety.

Trainability — Very high — one of the most trainable designer breeds. Eager to please and responds brilliantly to positive reinforcement. Excels in obedience, agility, and therapy work.

Grooming — High maintenance. Daily brushing for curly coats, weekly for straighter coats. Professional grooming every 6–8 weeks. Minimal bathing needed beyond grooming appointments.

Good with — Excellent with families, children of all ages, other dogs, and other pets. Ideal for first-time dog owners. Needs 30–60 minutes of daily exercise — walks, outdoor play, and mental stimulation.

Available in multiple sizes from mini to standard. The smaller varieties adapt better to Indian apartment living. The coat can be warm in Indian summers — keep indoors with AC during peak heat and exercise in cool hours. Regular coat trimming helps with heat management.

Health notes — Hip and elbow dysplasia, atopic dermatitis (skin allergies), progressive retinal atrophy, ear infections, bloat (in larger sizes), and heart conditions. Source from breeders who perform OFA hip testing, cardiac screening, and genetic testing.
