Origin — Ancient (Egypt / Middle East), refined in Britain
Coat — Short, fine, smooth, close single coat; almost no grooming needs but little protection.
Recognised colours — Any colour or combination — black, white, red, fawn, blue, brindle, and parti-colours.
Gentle, calm, quiet and affectionate — the fastest dog on earth, yet a famously placid 'couch potato' at home.
Trainability — Moderate — sensitive and independent; gentle positive methods suit it best.
Grooming — Very low. Occasional wipe-down.
Good with — Excellent with gentle children, seniors and calm homes; strong prey drive needs management and secure exercise areas.
The thin coat and low body fat mean it handles Indian heat reasonably but chills easily in AC/winter — provide a coat. Needs secure space to sprint.
Health notes — Bloat (gastric torsion), anaesthesia sensitivity (lean build, low fat), cardiac conditions, osteosarcoma, dental disease.
