Origin — Wales

Coat — Medium-length, dense, weatherproof double coat lying flat; a soft undercoat under a coarser outer coat. Sheds steadily.

Recognised colours — Red, sable, fawn, and black-and-tan — usually with white markings.

Bold, intelligent, affectionate and lively. A big dog on short legs — confident, alert, and a famously characterful herder.

Trainability — High — very intelligent and eager; excels at obedience but can be vocal and bossy.

Grooming — Moderate. Brush 2–3 times weekly; more during heavy seasonal shedding.

Good with — Great with families and children; herding instinct may make it nip at heels without training.

The double coat needs heat management in India; provide shade and water. Protect the long back — discourage jumping and stairs.
